International Meeting to Celebrate the 60th Birthday of Jonathan Borwein
29 November — 1 December, 2011
Hosted by CARMA, the University of Newcastle, Australia
NOTICE: Book of abstracts now available
Jonathan Borwein is known throughout the Australian mathematics community. Starting in the mid-eighties
he made numerous visits before moving here permanently four years ago. As a result, Jonathan has forged
strong links with Australian mathematicians. With more than a dozen books and over 400 papers Jonathan is
one our most productive mathematicians. MathSciNet lists 2,867 citations by 1,543
authors. His research spans optimization, functional and nonlinear analysis, operations research,
mathematical programming, number theory, special functions, experimental and computational mathematics as
well as high performance computing. Recognizing Jonathan's 60th birthday by a workshop focused on his
interests seems appropriate. CARMA and the University of Newcastle, along with AMSI, are sponsoring a 3-day
workshop focused on his principal mathematical interests. The breadth of those interests and the extent of
his impact are certain to attract high-caliber mathematicians from across Australia and the world.
Organiser: Brailey Sims.
